VidalisWhy I am a Rotaractor
Carolos Antonios Vidalis

I have been a Rotaractor for 7 years, six out of which were in the Rotaract Club of Panorama Thessaloniki (Greece) and one in the Rotaract Club of Paris (France).

Rotaract and Rotary have challenged me to become a better person, to overcome personal barriers and to embrace important values for life. This constant challenge is the main reason why I am a Rotaractor.
I find the most interesting part of the Rotaract experience to be service projects, which have helped me in maturing socially and personally, in breaking free of egoism and in acquiring a broader perspective to the reality around us.
In addition, I had never expected to meet so many different people through Rotaract both in my country and abroad! Each one’s different occupation, personality, ethnicity and culture display Rotary’s international dimension in all greatness, as well as its ability to bring different people together under the same ideals and aims. Thus, through Rotaract I have been able to learn and express myself on all levels.

Finally, I would like to share a personal view for Rotaract and Rotary. In the same way that the soaring mountains of our earth are solid, immovable and firm in the lapse of time, the Rotarian values have been preserved since the founding of the first Club. These high mountains, great as they are, gather snow which then melts to become the life-giving H2O for the animal and plant kingdom. In its turn, this water creates brooks, fountains and –sometimes- powerful headstreams, which gradually join each other while descending from the mountains and form into rivers that traverse forests and valleys. This fresh water could be parallelized to young Rotaractors and Rotaract: “flowing from” the ideals of Rotary they vigorously and dynamically reach parts that have had been harder to approach and offer new possibilities and perspectives.
