MOHAMMED REZAUL KARIM

I worked very hard to become a Rotarian and my effort was rewarded.

I believe more efforts should be put into encouraging Rotaractors to continue their service as part of Rotary.  If not, so much knowledge, skills and initiative are lost instead of contributing to sustainability in the development of the organization,

I joined (the) Rotaract Club of Chittagong Downtown as a Chartered member in 1987 and led the club as a Board member, Director, Secretary, Treasurer and finally President, growing up with the guidance of our sponsoring Rotary Club and also the District. We were partners in service creating and building confidence and helping to build skills as leaders of the future.

Having grown up through serving others, I began to realize and truly appreciate what partners in service (our Rotary Leaders) were.

Rotaract, which has about 186,000 members in almost 140 countries is Rotary's service program for young people ages 18–30. But the problem is that after Rotaractors turn 30, Rotarians often don't invite them into their clubs.  Membership in Rotary clubs is only by invitation.

We were not invited to join Rotary so a group of ex-Rotaractors formed their own club.

Most of us are Past Presidents and the past leaders of Rotaract Clubs and we united and formed a new Rotary Club in 2001, The Rotary Club of Chittagong Sagorika (Club ID : 58008) R.I. District 3280. Bangladesh.

Please let me say that I have Rotary to thank for my international network of professionals and friends as well as my better understanding and interest for other people's ways of living. Most important, wonderful things happened for my life, when I found my life partner Rtn. Shalma Rahman Monee, a Chartered President of Rotaract Club of Midtown Sunflower and a Rotary Foundation Alumnus (GSE team member to the USA in 2001). Again thanks to Rotary.

I would say to all Rotaractors and young girls and boys who are exploring their interests and fulfilling their dreams to expand their horizons should strive to become part of Rotary when they become an adult, as it can be one of the most rewarding experiences any individual can have.
