Why I Am A Rotarian

March 4, 2007

When I grew up as a little boy in Sweden, my father was a member of a small town Rotary Club. When I was eight, we moved to a suburb outside Stockholm. As soon as our new house was ready, it was filled with new friends, who I had never met before. They were all Rotarians and my father had transferred to the local Rotary Club of Huddinge, near Stockholm.

Since I became a Rotarian, I have experienced that Rotarians can visit any Rotary Club in the world and immediately be accepted as friends, even if we have never been there before.

There is a special bond between Rotarians everywhere in the world. We are united in Fellowship, Camaraderie and Service. Rotary’s Founder Paul Harris once said:  “If you have love for your fellow man in your heart, you are potential Rotarian.”

Rotarians have compassion and we care for those who are less fortunate. That’s why we help them in our Rotary Service.

I have found that the essence of Rotary can be summarized in the word “Service”. We contribute to what is good for society.

That’s why I am a Rotarian.
