Why I Am A Rotarian

JUNE 20, 2006

Why I am a Rotaractor-turned-Rotarian?

When children grow up, most of them will become parents. When Rotaractors grow up, will they become Rotarians? If Rotarians are the parents, the Rotaractors will be the next generation.... I kept wondering (about that) and I wondered more frequently when I was about to turn 30.

I joined (the) Rotaract Club of Macau as a chartered member, growing up with my Rotaract buddies and our parent-like partners in service.

Sometimes we had different opinions especially during my adolescence of a Rotaractor’s life cycle!

That was the time when the children complained that their friends and parents had never understood them. However, have you ever seen parents complaining that their children not understanding them in return? Mostly they don’t expect them to do so because children are always children. Some of them will say, “when you become the parents you’ll understand how we feel.”

Having grown up through serving others, I began to realize and truly appreciate what my “partners in service”  (our Rotary Leaders) had done.

Our Question: Why not becoming a Rotarian to serve further?  The commitment “to serve” is a long road but I like to keep walking this way and I (was) inducted to my mother club on 2 July 2005.

It’s my turn to (lead and) support the younger generation.

Maybe I will tell them, “When you be the parents (Rotarians) you’ll understand how we feel!”
