The Detroit Convention of 1934 was held between June 25th and 29th. 7,390 accepted the invitation with 2,205 Clubs represented.

It was again the time of radio to play its part as the medium allowed a wide audience to listen in.

Harris was present and linking Rotary to the host city said: "In common with the automobile Rotary has undergone changes". "Serve others and you would be served".

The Convention saw Harris presented with the Silver Buffalo Award by the Boy Scouts of America. Walter W. Head of St Louis (President of the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America) presented the President Emeritus with the award.

Click to enlargeHead (not to be confused with International Service Committee Chairman Walter D Head of Montclair, NJ Rotary Club) paid this tribute to Rotary's founder: "The great good accomplished by Paul Harris will live forever in the hearts of our youth". "The world little knows about Paul Harris, so modest has he been in the performance of his duties…His deeds speak for themselves".
And he said this about the movement: "Rotary International as an institution has rendered a service of inestimable value to the Boy Scout Movement".

Harris accepted the award on behalf of Rotary International.
