Paul Harris Index

It has sometimes been written that Paul Harris’s ancestors arrived on the Mayflower’.......and it is true.  This is the line of descent.  All early dates are subject to correction especially because of changes in the calendar.

Paul Harris, born Racine, WI, April 19 1868; married Jean Thomson in Chicago July 2, 1910; died Chicago January 27, 1947 

Paul was the son of George Howard Harris and Cornelia Bryan.

George Howard Harris born Wallingford, VT, 1842;   married Cornelia Bryan May 12, 1864; died Denver 1926

Cornelia Bryan born Olean, NY, April 2, 1843; married George Howard Harris May 12, 1864; died Denver 1920 

Cornelia was the daughter of Henry Bryan and Larissa Forbes (or Fobes)

Henry Bryan born Middleboro’, Mass, May30, 1792; married Clarissa Forbes at New Marlborough, Mass;   died Racine, WI, June 19, 1868

Clarissa Forbes (or Fobes) born Middleboro’ Mass, August 28, 1797; married Henry Bryan; died Racine, WI, 1869? 

Clarissa was the daughter of John Forbes (or Fobes) and Rosinda Alden

John Forbes (or Fobes) born March 12, 1758; married Rosinda Alden in Bridgewater, Mass, March 12, 1783; died at Middleboro’ Mass, September 2, 1839

Rosinda Alden born Middleboro, Mass, 1763; married John Forbes in Bridgewater, Mass, March 12, 1783; died at Olean, NY, October 13, 1839  

Rosinda was the daughter of Silas Alden and Silence Dean

Silas Alden born Middleboro’, Mass October 10, 1739; married Silence Dean in Taunton, Mass, May20 1762; died Middleboro, Mass, March 23, 1764

Silence Dean born Taunton, Mass, 1745; married Silas Alden in Taunton, Mass, May20 1762;   died  ? 

Silas was the son of David Alden and Judith Paddelford

David Alden born Middleboro’, Mass, May18, 1702; married Judith Paddelford in Middleboro’ Mass, before November 21, 1728; died Middleboro’, Mass, August 24, 1763

Judith Paddelford born Taunton, Mass before1709; married David Alden in Middleboro’ Mass, before November 21, 1728; died Middleboro’, Mass, January 12 1802 

David was the son of John Alden and Hanna White

John Alden born Bridgewater, Mass 1674; married Hanna White in Middleboro’ Mass, 1701;   died Middleboro’ Mass, September 29, 1730

Hanna White born Weymouth, Mass, May 6, 1681; married John Alden in Middleboro’ Mass, 1701;   died Middleboro’ Mass, October 5, 1732 

John was the son of Joseph Alden and Mary Simmons

Joseph Alden born Plymouth, Mass, 1627; married Mary Simmons in Duxbury 1654; died Bridgewater, Mass, February 2, 1697

Mary Simmons born Duxbury, Mass 1638; married Joseph Alden in Duxbury 1654; died Bridgewater, Mass, February 2, 1697 

Joseph was the son of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins

John Alden born Harwich, England 1598; married Priscilla Mullins in Plymouth, Mass 1621; died Duxbury, Mass, September 22, 1687

Priscilla Mullins born Dorking, England 1602; married John Alden in Plymouth, Mass 1621; died after 1650. 

John Alden and Priscilla Mullins were both passengers on the Mayflower. 

The above is based upon an article by John Palmer in ‘The Rotarian’ April 1985, on material in the Alden genealogy pages on the net, and on information from "History" board member PDG Jim Alden. The sources are gratefully acknowledged. (Paul Harris makes mention of this in "This Rotarian Age" written in 1935 on page 63)
