DISCUSSION

This list of Terminated clubs is incomplete and does not show all the clubs whose charters were terminated. For example, the entire Rotary network in Germany was closed down by the Fascists but only those in the former East Germany were listed.

In October 1978, the Board of RI considered the position of Rotary Clubs in countries in which they might not be able to function, mostly for political reasons. They drew up a set of guidelines and based on these, the Board terminated the membership in RI of all Rotary Clubs in Afghanistan, Burma, Cuba, Laos and Vietnam, effective from January 31, 1979. The General Secretary, Harry Stewart, passed this information to all departments on November 14. All former clubs in these five countries were excused payment of any outstanding money due to RI .

It was also considered necessary to notify the District Governors of D 329 and D 330 of the Board's decision. These were the Asian districts affected.

District 329 now has 184 clubs mostly in India round Calcutta, and in Nepal. District 330 now covers Malaysia.
