ROTARY CLUB VALPARAISO

BRIEF HISTORY OF CLUB

HISTORY:
 
With the history of Valparaiso Rotary Club, begins to rotate Chilean history, as it is the first club formed in Chile. One day, Friday, April 13, 1923, lunch at noon at the "Lucien Restaurant", located at Serrano our port N °. 560, was founded by Mr. Aurelio Cruzat Ortega (Chile), Miguel Marin Nates (Ecuador), Julio Navarro Monzón (Argentina), Agustin E. Turner (American).
 

FIRST DIRECTORY:
Were appointed temporarily until July 13, 1923 as President Aurelio Cruzat counsel, Mr. Ortega and Secretary Mr. Augustine E. Turner, General Secretary of the YMCA of Val paradise.
Later in the meeting of 13 July 1923, at the Hotel Royal, was appointed permanent Board for the period 1923/24, being undertaken by Messrs Joseph Fabres Pinto as president, Agustín E. Turner as secretary, Aurelio O. Cruzat Treasurer, Miguel Marín and F. Nates O. French and Macer.
 

PURPOSE OF THE CLUB:
Minutes Book of the time, copy the target: "The object of the Club is to collect monthly or bi men of significance in the Commerce and Companies, so that they learn in the privacy of one another and establish relationships of friendship and common support. This business gets to know the neighbor, perhaps by stimulating the development and achieving greater efficiency by changing experience. Until further provision shall be admitted two new members at each meeting.
 

CHARTER:
Rotary International extended the charter to the Rotary Club Valparaiso, Chile, EL15 May 1924 under registration No. 1771, signed by the Presi-dent of RI. Guy Gundaker (USA.) and the Secretary General of RI. Chesley T. Perry (USA.)
ANTHEM OF THE CLUB:
Since 1927, chanted in all our sessions the Valparaiso Rotary Club Anthem, composed by Theo Rhana partner. Later in 1928, in the rest of the clubs in the country, began to sing the Anthem Rotary Chile R. P. Gonzalo Arteche (RC. Los Angeles)
 

COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Since its inception, the Rotary Club Valparaiso, maintains a permanent concern for the initiatives and issues that may influence the development of the city and the region. Among many matters on which the club had had intervention highlights, include: the installation of the Oil Refinery in Concon, founding the medical school in Valparaiso, installation of Windows copper refinery, the formation of the Center for Progress of Valparaiso, installation of Congress, etc..,.
We have participated in numerous humanitarian works in the commu-nity, especially in the construction of sports FIELDS, children libraries, public walks, the Workplace "Agustín E. Turner"
for young disabled people, etc.. and we have repeatedly contributed to the empowerment of rooms and delivery of medical teams' hospitals in our city. (See attached for humanitarian work performed)
YOUTH SERVICE:
Youth has always been one of the most important aspects in the activities of the Rotary Club Valparaiso, prove this. was the construction of a children's playground on Avenida Argentina in 1925, the first work of Rotary community in Chile.
Special attention has been given to creation. and operation of youth clubs, Interact and Rotaract 1965 in 1975, in addition to having made several successful RYLA (Rotary Meetings young leaders) at the national or South America ..
Since June 1946, our club has had a bank of mate ¬ rial to help low-income students today "Student Foundation Dr. Pedro Uribe Concha, having benefited many students in our colleges and universities.

THE WEEK OF THE CHILD:
On February 25, 1927, Rotarian Dr. Gustavo Fricke S., proposed in the club's celebration of "Week of the Child, which was basically held in schools and community schools, a week of daily activities, highlighting in children values such as companionship,
, mother, teacher, home, home, etc..,
This idea was first made in Valparaiso on May 5, 1928 with great success and has since spread to all communities in the country and has traditionally remained in the month of October, to the present day.

VALPARAISO ROTARY CLUB HEADQUARTERS:
In the period 1961-62 led efforts to acquire the office No. 906, Building of the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce in Ross Passage N °. 149 of our port. This real estate was acquired by personal actions of 114 Rotarians at the time, who later gave up their participation to the Rotary Club Valparaiso.

COMMITTEE ON WOMEN'S RC. VALPARAISO:
While the wives of Rotarians always accompanied their husbands in the execution of works of community service in the social events of the club, was, on October 15, 1942, when formally constituted as a committee attached to the Directive the club. Several drafts have been accom-panied their husbands in the role of District Governor or President of the club and at all times have been a valuable aid in all the humanitarian work we have done in our community and country.
Currently developed for fifteen consecutive years ROTALUZ Program in schools and colleges of the city, which is a program aimed at drug prevention, alcohol and sexuality are not targeted.

PROJECTION IN THE DISTRICT:
Since the Chilean rotate organized into districts, our club provided eighteen (18) of the Rotarians who have served with great brightness and efficiency of the office of District Governor.

COLLABORATION The Rotary Foundation:
Our club has always been high on their generous contributions to The Rotary Founda-tion, and active participation in its programs
In our life we 15/Marzo/2009 Rotary contributed to voluntarily form a total of app. U.S. $. 84,375.98 and we have sixty-nine (69) Paul Harris, five (5) of which are Multiple Paul Harris and eight (8) Be ¬ nefactores Rotary Foundation.

FUTURE OF CR. VALPARAISO:
The future of the Valparaiso Rotary Club is in its members and on their hands. It's in them, part of a large and active club, continuing on the path of fellowship and service. Is in them, knowing and loving our institution and to realize in our community, so many benefits that can be made through Rotary International, Rotary Foundation and ourselves.
