Rotary International District 9910

A Part of our History of Rotary in the Pacific Region

The tiny (34.6 sq km) Norfolk Island became the 150^th country to be admitted to Rotary when it was chartered on 17 May, 1973. This event is unique in several ways; Norfolk Island club was jointly sponsored by the Birkenhead Club in Auckland, New Zealand and the St Ives Club in New South Wales, Australia.

The charter president, Ned Lenthall had previously been a member of the St Ives Club.. Although territorially part of Australia, Norfolk Island Club was included in New Zealand District 292, under DG Bob Reeder.

For the Club’s charter, DG Reeder was represented by PDG Peter Rigg. In 1981-82 Ned Lenthall became the last District Governor of District 992, prior to that District separating into Districts 9910 and 9920 and Norfolk continues to be part of District 9910.

Norfolk Island, only accessible by scheduled air services has been the venue of two District 9910 District conferences
