THE DISTRICT 4610 HISTORY

A Part of Our History of Rotary in BRAZIL, South America

Prepared by the district and not verified by Rotary Global History

Until 1927 the clubs of Brazil had been under the direct supervision of the Board of Directors of Rotary International. With the creation of District 63, the Brazilian teams found themselves temporarily under the administration of foreign Governors - Donato Gaminara from the Rotary Club of Montevideo between 1927 to 1928, and Cupertino del Campo from the Rotary Club of Buenos Aires between 1928 by 1929.

From 1929, Brazil was given an exclusive district number, District 72. District Governors had a huge area to cover, but a small number of clubs - in the beginning, only twelve - (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Santos, Belo Horizonte, Juiz de Fora, Niteroi, Petropolis, Campos, Porto Alegre, Pelotas, Rio Grande and Ribeirao Preto).

Initially, District covered the entire national territory, its governors were Edmundo de Souza Carvalho (1929-1930) and Armando de Arruda Pereira (1935-1936), of Sao Paulo, and seven other governors who managed the huge District until its division in 1938.

With divisions and subdivisions in 1956 and later, District 461 was born in 1990-91, under the administration of Governor Nelson Aparecido Célico from RCS P Sumaré and later was redistributed, resulting in two other districts - 4420 and 4430.

The district at that time was 461 plus a Zero as determined by the Board of Directors of Rotary International and is now called "District 4610", from the year 1991-92 and the District Governor was Sizenando Affonso of RC Osasco.
