ROTARY IN KOSOVA

Converting takers to givers

Kosova is admitted to Rotary International on November 4, 2005, Kosovars became part of the large Rotary family and equal with the rest of the world. Rotary Club Peja is the First Rotary Club, chartered on June 30, 2006. The RC Peja is sponsored from RC Podgorica (Monte Negro) and Indio Sunrise Rotary Club, California USA.

Kosova Rotarians are promoting Rotary values and implementing health, illiteracy, environment, water, ambassadorial and exchange students programs, poverty projects, with Gift Of Life (GOL) support have send a child for heart surgery in USA, support Polio Plus project and have cooperation with Rotary Clubs in Europe, USA and worldwide. Rotary, this wonderful, powerful, caring, successful and respected organization has changed our life! Rotary has enabled Kosova to be equal! Rotary has transformed takers to givers! Rotary has broadened circle of friends! We have learned Rotarians don’t just talk about doing good works...they are doing the good work! We’ve learned that Rotary Shares! Rotary Cares! Rotary Leads The Way! Rotary Lends a Hand! Rotary Make our Dreams Real and the Future of Rotary is at our Hands.

Rotarians in Kosova are identifying the needs and implementing the projects that have impact on the community and change the life of ordinary people. By promoting Rotary service and the good feeling of giving, we have been able to “convert takers to givers”. Rotary in Kosova is known as service organization and Rotarians as givers. I am sharing with you one project among hundreds implemented so far in the country, the project “On the line of duty”. After the war, Kosova was without pension and retirement funds. Families of police officers killed on the line of duty, were not eligible to pension or any other financial support. Peja Rotarians supported from Indio Sunrise Rotary Club, California, has initiated and funded this important Rotary project, by providing financial and living assistance, to every family. The project has promoted Rotary service and our organization in the best possible way. After to years, the Government and Kosova Police have taken over this project and take care for these families.

Kosova is a successful and fast growing Rotary country in the region. So far we have seven Rotary Clubs:

  • Rotary Club Peja
  • Rotary Club Prishtina
  • Rotary Club Gjakova
  • Rotary Club Prizren
  • Rotary Club Ferizaj
  • Rotary Club Mitrovice and
  • Rotary Club Prishtina International

Recently, Rotary Club Ferizaj and Rotary Club Peja, have translated and published the “ABC of Rotary” in Albanian language. The book will help furthering Rotary service and ideal. Prizren Rotary Club has translated “What is Rotary”, electronic copy is distributed to all Rotarians.

Finally, Rotarians in Kosova are lead by the wisdom of the 4 Way Test. It is our belief, the 4 Way Test, unites Rotarians by promoting the truth, fairness, and goodwill and better friendships.

Yours in Rotary,

Neshad R. Asllani, MPHF
