THE HISTORY OF DISTRICT 2090, Italy and Albania

A Part of Our History of Rotary in EUROPE

Prepared by the district and not verified by Rotary Global History

The District 2090, which includes four Italian regions (Abruzzo, the Marche, Molise and Umbria) and a foreign country - Albania - was born in 1984-'85 as a result of division by the then District 208, which included Lazio, Sardinia, Umbria, Marches, Abruzzo and Molise.

The division entrusted to the District 208, Lazio and Sardinia, giving the new District 209 the remaining territory where Rotary was already adequately spread with Clubs present and operating in four regions.

The current name of District 2090 was necessary as a result of computerization of the entire management system, which required the inclusion of four-digit numbers for all districts in the world.

The first club established in the District of Perugia, was created in 1936, closed in 1938, and reconstituted in1948.
 In the same year was born the club Ancona.
In 1953 another five Club had already arisen:- L'Aquila, Terni, Orvieto, Pesaro and Pescara.
The following year were added Chieti and Macerata;

In'67 /'68 came the Club of Camerino, and Urbino;
and the following year, Termoli.
The 1971 is the year of birth of Ancona Riviera del Conero (now Conero Ancona), while
in the next two years were born Larino, Assisi and Vasto.
We waited for the 1977/78 to be created:- Civitanova Marche, Lanciano, Pescara West (now West Pescara G. D'Annunzio), Todi and Gualdo Tadino.
In 1982 /'83 arrived Ortona and 1984 /'85, the year of the division of the District, was created Altavallesina Frasassi caves.
The following year saw new entries for Falconara Marittima and then, in 1990/'91, it was the turn of Agnone, Novafeltria High Montefeltro, Perugia East and Tolentino.
In 1991 /'92 were made of Amelia Narni, Atessa Media Val di Sangro, Teramo East and then the club Tirana, with which the district became international.

In 1993 /'94 was formed South Fermano Sibillini and then we waited for the 1998 /'99 year to welcome Pescara North Vestini and
2000 /'01 for another four Clubs: Durres (Albania), Fermo Adriatic Sea (now Porto San Giorgio Riviera fermana), Pesaro Rossini and Trasimeno.
In 2001 /'02 we continued with West Chieti, L'Aquila Gran Sasso d'Italia, Norcia San Benedetto, San Benedetto del Tronto North and Loreto.
In 2002 /'03 came Korça, the third Albanian Club, Cagli Earth Catria Nero; Montegranaro in 2004 and 2005 in Teramo North Centenary, so named to celebrate the hundred years of life of Rotary International.
