THE HISTORY OF DISTRICT 1880, Germany

A Part of Our History of Rotary in Europe

DEUTSCH

Prepared by the district and not verified by Rotary Global History

District 1880 was created in the Rotary year 1978/79 from the division of the hitherto very comprehensive Bavarian district 184.
From now on, there were two districts in Bavaria, District 188 Northern Bavaria and District 184 Southern Bavaria.
At this time the district had 31 clubs.

Within the next 10 years, the number rose to 40 by founding of new clubs.

After the reunification of Germany and the associated new or re-creation of Rotary clubs in Thuringia and Saxony, that number doubled in just 5 years, so that in 1995 a new division was needed.

Since 1990, "Leitdistrikt" for the regions of Saxony and Thuringia, was District 1880 for its leadership and responsibility in the growth of these two clubs in eastern Germany, resulting in a tremendous pace to a total of 80 new clubs being created.

From the re-sharing of the districts at the beginning of the year 1995/96 Rotary arose from the western part of Thuringia and the new District 1950 was created - Northwest Bavaria and Thüringen.
The old, now scaled-down District 1880 extended northeastern Bavaria and Saxony from Regensburg to Goerlitz, from Bad Düben to Weisswasser.
When the division started in 1995 the district had 38 clubs, one year later there were already 43.

In the following years, especially in Saxony founded many clubs, so that the district counts today 64 clubs, with a total of 2973 members (as of 1 July 2008).
