What the Clubs Are Doing

Dublin (Ireland)

The facts of the Rotary situation in Dublin are baldly as follows:

Our fourth annual meeting, held March 23rd, was a most business‑like function, and resulted in the following officers and council being elected for 1914: President, J. P. McKnight (City Woolen Mills) ; vice‑president, Richard White (printer) ; honorable treasurer (4th year), T. Robertson Coade (Cantrell & Cochrane) ; honorable secretary, Win. A. McConnell (Century Insurance Co.) ; council T. L. Stewart (mercantile stationer), John Sheridan (Bovril, Ltd.), Dr. E. M. Fannin (physician), T. W. Beckett (builder), and T. A. Greban (advertising manager, "Irish Independent" and Associated Newspapers).

It was decided to let the present club year end in November next, so as to bring Dublin into‑line with the British and other clubs. We improved our rules and spoke well and kindly of the outgoing officers, particularly Ex‑President Findlater, whom we would unanimously re‑elect for another term but he would not hear of it. “Pass round the presidency year by year," is Findlater's dictum, and isn't he right?

Our little fortnightly sheet, "Cogs," is beginning to interest our members just a little more than at first. There are hopes for it. It is felt on all hands we have a year of big things in front of us, and in the genial T. P. McKnight the ship of Rotary in Dublin should reach its goal, all safe.

Rotarian Kevin Kenny has been appointed manager, and Rotarian George L. O'Connor, assistant manager of the Civic and Town Planning Exhibition to be held in Dublin this year. The initial organisation work in connection with this exhibition was handled by Mr. John Nolen, B. Sc., Cambridge, Mass., who spoke on town planning before the Rotary club. Mr. Nolen first heard of Rotary in Dublin (Mr. Perry, isn't that , a good one?). Mr. Nolen is by this time back in Cambridge, so the local Rotary club, if there is one, should look him up.

It is hard to say just yet how many Dubliners will make the long trip to Houston. More later on that point.

International Vice‑President R. W. Pentland and Secretary Thos. Stephenson of Edinburgh were our guests at lunch March 27th. A goodly crowd of Dublin Rotarians turned up to greet their brethren from Bonnie Scotland.
