Acknowledgments

A book that covers as much ground, geographically and historically, as this one does requires the participation of many individuals and organizations. I gratefully acknowledge the invaluable assistance of the clubs and districts in Zone 22 and their representatives who contributed volumes of interesting facts, stories, and pictures from which the district histories were compiled.

I am most grateful to the following Rotarians who wrote essays of historical interest for the general history section of the book: Gordon Anderson, Donald Campbell, Vladimir Donskoy, PRIVP “Curly” Galbraith, PDG Carolyn Jones, Dr. Robert Lampard, Dr. Peter Penner, Kevin Webb, and 2007 RIP Wilf Wilkinson. I am most grateful to the translators: PDG Alonzo Malouin and Roger Lalonde in French, and Jim Denis in Russian.

I acknowledge with appreciation my fellow members of the Book Committee without whose commitment, planning, organizing, financing, and encouragement production of the book would not have been possible: convenor, RID John Eberhard; honorary chair, PRIVP “Curly” Galbraith; co-chairs, Bob Junker and PDG Dr. Monty Audenart; members, Doug Lee (secretary); PDG Ted Valentine (marketing); Des DeFreitas
(treasurer); Gord Anderson; PDG Dr. Jim Angus; Donald Campbell; Jim Denis; PDG Bill Gillott; Dr Marmie Hess; Hon. Ken Moore, Dr. Peter Penner, Professor Donald Smith.
I am especially grateful to the Rotary Club of Calgary and their executive-secretary, Sandra Elliott, for the use of the Club’s office for processing orders and shipping books.

Thanks are also extended to all the District History Committee Chairs and members, for their participation.

I owe a special debt of gratitude to Cynthia Beck, Rotary International archivist, who provided many facts and pictures on a minute’s notice. The historical accuracy of the events, persons, and achievements described in the book are due in large part to Cynthia’s professional expertise and research capabilities.

Finally, I express my thanks to Alex Frazer-Harrison, the copy-editor, who ensured that the history recorded here is grammatically correct and textually consistent. Also to
Donna Campbell and Giles Wilderman, whose technical expertise is greatly appreciated.
